Carolus Ruggles




Carolus Sprague "Carl" Ruggles (Marion Massachusettae 11 Martii 1876[1]; 24 Octobris 1971) fuit compositor Americanus, qui insignissime artificia subtiliter fecit "contrapuncto dissonante" utens, nomine a Carolo Seeger excogitato ad musicam Rugglesianam describendam. Eius rationem contrapuncti atonalis in ratione non seriale condidit, in qua classis tonorum non iteratur donec quidam numerus classium tonorum, saepe octo, interiaceat. Tam laboriose musicam composuit quam pauca opera perfecit.


Ruggles, praeter foede rudia maledicta, praecipue Iudaeos et Afroamericanos odiose petentia, amicus fuit Henrici Cowell, Edgardi Varèse, Caroli Ives, Thomae Hart Benton, Ruth Crawford Seeger, et Caroli Seeger.[2] Inter eius discipulos sunt Iacobus Tenney et Merton Brown. Michael Tilson Thomas conductor musicae Rugglesianae favens, opera omnia cum Buffalo Philharmonic in phonodiscis rettulit, et Sun-Treader cum Symphonia Franciscopolitana nonnumquam agit. Ruggles, plerumque senex, etiam fuit pictor fecundus, qui nonnulla centum tabulas vendidit.
