How do I get a reference to the main map object in google.com/maps?
What I found is that the map's <canvas>
height and width can be decreased to simulate a lower resolution. For example moving the Chrome window from my Macbook Pro (Retina) to a FHD display (connected via HDMI) and then resizing the window by just a few pixels will, more or less, halve the height and width of the <canvas>
, based on the fact that the actual resolution of the screen goes from 2560x1600 to 1920x1080. This is similar to changing resolution in a videogame.
On my Macbook I can manually decrease the height
and width
attributes of the <canvas>
, causing a loss of definition but huge improvements in terms of rendering speed (while panning/zooming). Unfortunately it also causes rendering artifacts, I assume because the main Map
object needs to recalculate everything based on the new canvas resolution.
So my question is: how do I get a reference to the main Map
object in google.com/maps and simulate a resize
event without actually resizing the window (which would reset the height and width)?
