Parameter not valid error in retrieving image from SQL Server to Visual Studio form

-1

I am trying to retrieve an image from a SQL Server database to a picture box in my vb.net form. But I'm getting an error on this line:

PictureBox3.Image = Image.FromStream(ms)

This is my full code:

Private Sub user_profile_Load(sender As System.Object, e As System.EventArgs) Handles MyBase.Load
connection.Open()
Dim rec As SqlDataReader = command.ExecuteReader()
While rec.Read
Dim data As Byte() = DirectCast(rec("Photo"), Byte())
Dim ms As New MemoryStream(data)
PictureBox3.Image = Image.FromStream(ms)

ms.GetBuffer()

TextBox1.Text = rec.Item("name")
Label37.Text = rec.Item("regno")
Label17.Text = rec.Item("dob")
Label18.Text = rec.Item("blood")
Label35.Text = rec.Item("gender")
Label36.Text = rec.Item("course")
TextBox3.Text = rec.Item("phone")
TextBox4.Text = rec.Item("email")
TextBox8.Text = rec.Item("father")
TextBox7.Text = rec.Item("mother")
TextBox5.Text = rec.Item("income")
TextBox10.Text = rec.Item("address")
TextBox20.Text = rec.Item("ten_institute")
TextBox16.Text = rec.Item("ten_per")
TextBox13.Text = rec.Item("ten_year")
TextBox19.Text = rec.Item("twl_institute")
TextBox18.Text = rec.Item("twl_per")
TextBox21.Text = rec.Item("twl_year")
TextBox15.Text = rec.Item("degree_institute")
TextBox17.Text = rec.Item("degree_per")
TextBox22.Text = rec.Item("degree_year")
TextBox14.Text = rec.Item("collge")

End While

End Sub

Please help me.

  • What exactly is that ms.GetBuffer() for?

  • That seems to suggest that the Byte array you provided is not a valid representation of an Image object.
